• Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo!
  • Always use your hands with soap to clean your tattoo. Please don’t use washcloths; it will irritate your tattoo. Pat with a clean towel to dry.
  • Don't have others apply Curel lotion or Aquaphor to your tattoo unless they are wearing gloves and have washed their hands. For your safety, PLEASE, do not have people with open wounds on their hands apply lotion to your tattoo.
  • Take good care of your tattoo while it’s healing. Normal healing time is approximately 3 weeks. Some people will take longer, up to 4 weeks to heal. During this healing period clean and apply Curel or Aquaphor to your tattoo 1 to 2 times a day. Only apply enough to moisten tattoo, pat off excess.
  • Do NOT use Vaseline, Neosporin, A&D or other healing ointments as these are petroleum based and will draw the ink out of the skin and seal the tattoo which could cause infection. Please use the ointment or lotion your tattooist suggests. P-Dub Tattoo Works only recommends the use of un-fragranced Curel lotion or Aquaphor.
  • Some people may develop a scab on their tattoo, this is normal, your body’s way of regenerating new skin.
  • Do not pick or pull at scabs or skin while your tattoo is healing, this will pull out the pigment from your skin and may cause scarring.
  • To deal with itching slap lightly, DO NOT SCRATCH.
  • We have taken every precaution to ensure your safety by providing a safe and sterile environment with the use of single use needles, razors, ink caps, tape, ink and bandages. We run bi-weekly spore tests on our sterilization unit and follow all Health Department rules and regulations to ensure your safety
  • Please do not soak your tattoo. Pools, hot tubs, lakes and taking a bath are examples of this. Failure to follow these simple instructions may cause you to get an infection or draw the ink out of your tattoo.
  • Please stay out of the sun while your tattoo is healing. The sun or tanning beds will have adverse affects on the color and healing of your tattoo. After your tattoo is healed we recommend that you use a good sun block when you are going to expose your tattoo to the sun or a tanning bed.

  • Please follow these instructions for your tattoo care; it’s your responsibility to care for your tattoo and keep it healthy!

  • Understand that infection is always possible even with the best preventative care. In case of infection please consult your health care professional. Signs of infection include excessive redness; yellowish discharge may also come out of the area.

Aftercare

TATTOOS AREPERMANENT!

The bandage that has been applied to your tattoo should remain on about an hour. This will ensure that your tattoo has a good clean start in the healing process.

After removing the bandage wash the area with anti-bacterial soap and your fingers to remove all ointment, dried blood and inks, never use a washcloth. It is important that you treat your tattoo as a wound; your skin has been punctured by a needle numerous times and is a wound.

The following precautions must be followed to prevent infections:

Piercingaftercare

  • Try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. This is considered the optimal amount of sleep for the body. This will help your body heal as best as possible. If you are living in a high-stress environment, consider resting as much as you can in your down time.
  • Try not to sleep on your new piercing. This causes irritation and may prolong the healing process.
  • For Oral piercings, try to prop your head above your heart when sleeping. This is a common way to prevent excessive swelling.
  • Replace your bedding with clean sets of sheets, blankets, and pillow-cases as much as possible during the healing period.
  • Do not leave jewelry out of a piercing for too long! If you must remove your jewelry, either put in a retainer or replace it ASAP. For example, a tongue piercing can close-up in a matter of hours.
  • Avoid going into a pool, hot tub, lake, etc. These types of water can be unclean and may induce infection.
  • Follow all aftercare instructions which you receive. Most piercings require care up to 3 times a day. The better you follow instructions and perform cleanings and soaks, the better and quicker your piercing will heal.
